From 1953- An ad for Chrysler cars featuring a Ben Zuckerman  suit.
'This is the style for you! These are the cars that streak long and low, yet handle lightly and softly as silk. These are the cars... the Plymouth, the Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial...that put a woman in her place, just the height, exactly the vision and position that make her supremely comfortable behind the wheel. These are the cars that surround you with safely- lavish you with a hundred little luxuries- convince you in a few delightful days that you'll never drive anything else.'

This is a lovely Ben Zuckerman ensemble of a very spring like greenish-yellow. It dates from the early 1960's, and is made up of a dress and jacket. The jacket is boxy and Chanel-like, with 4 patch pockets at the hip and bust.
The dress is very special, it is empire line with a slightly fitted waist. The zip is asymmetrical, perhaps as it would be easier to reach a zip on the side rather than the middle.
This outfit was sold at Dayton's Oval Room. This store opened in Minneapolis in1902 as Goodfellows but was quickly bought by George Dayton. It was a very successful store in it's day, with branches across the American mid-west, including in America's first indoor mall. The Oval Room was the section of the store where the finest clothing was sold, a testament to the esteem Ben Zuckerman was held in. Sadly the store is no longer in operation.

From 25 February, 1963- Sculpted Slender
' New York: Noted for his coats, Ben Zuckerman of New York interpretes a French-ribbed ottoman coat in pale rose, with a sculpted slender look. The spring fashion features rounded shoulders and narrow, banded slit pockets. A touch of elegancy is added to the coat with passementrie buttons on its double-breasted closing.'
I am fortunate to own a coat from the same collection, seen here. While mine is ivory, and has two sets of buttons instead of 3, the material is the same as is the buttons. Ben Zuckerman was known for his extremely large collections each season, though as illustrated here, it was often a case of very subtle differences between each garment, or the same outfit made in 3 or 4 different colours or fabrics.

From 25 February, 1963- Tailored Femininity
'New York: Ben Zuckerman creates femininity in the tailored way with this new suit from his spring 1963 collection. The slim draped skirt of the wool suit is topped by a self-bound, hip length jacket with four pockets. Matching the suit is a red and white checked Swiss silk blouse with a soft bow at the neckline for a feminine look.'
