Here is a lovely late 1950's-early 60's suit in a subtle plaid accented with a velvet collar that matches the pink in the plaid.

This suit is reminiscent of Chanel, and while the design is simple it is very flattering. It has pockets on the jacket and is single breasted.

A wonderful mid 1950's Zuckerman suit in grey with pinstripes.

The jacket is double breasted and nipped at the waist, and there is padding at the hip to accentuate the smallness of the waist and the fullness of the hips. There are two 'hidden' pockets at the hip that are highlighted by contrasting the direction of the pinstripes, creating a herringbone design.

The skirt is straight and long with a slit at the back to aid in walking.

This suit takes a masculine idea- the pinstripes and turns it into a super-feminine masterpiece.

This is a lovely jacket, once part of a suit, in a metallic bronze with coppery threads throughout. It is lined in light bronze taffeta.

The jacket is very nipped at the waist and therefore probably dates to the early 1950's. It buttons to the neck with buttons covered in matching fabric. The collar is small and feminine, as are the three-quarter length sleeves with small cuffs.

There are crescent shaped pockets on each hip.

I have no doubt that this suit was worn as a 'theatre' or 'opera' suit- a suit that is more dressy, either in design or material or both, that would have been suitable for wearing to evening events.

A Ben Zuckerman coat in black, from 1957. The suit is perfectly accessorised with white gloves, a ladylike white hat and a large corsage at the neckline. There are three large buttons, and what appears to be a velvet collar. The coat has feminine seaming, curving over the bust to the waist. I would imagine that this coat cost in the range of $300, which would have made it a significant investment in 1957.

From 1951, a Ben Zuckerman coat, with a very full skirt, nipped waist and shawl collar. It is princess seamed and features 3 buttons, no doubt as high quality as all Zuckermans are. The suit is accessorised with a large brooch, small hat and a fantastic fur muff. All in all a very stylish coat. It was sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman-Marcus and WM Block, all high end department stores.

This is a fabulous late 1960's Zuckerman suit in a bright red. As is typical of Zuckermans, the buttons are really outstanding- substantial and very decorative. The suit is a heavy wool with patch pockets on the jacket. The skirt is shorter than Zuckerman's of the 1950's and early 60's, as by the this point in history the miniskirt had arrived.

The jacket is trimmed at the waist and wrists with fur, which I believe may be chinchilla. Fur trimmed garments were very popular during this era, which ranged from inexpensive rabbit to leopard or sable, which was very costly. The vogue for furs lead to some animals becoming endangered even to this day.

This is a Ben Zuckerman jacket, once part of a suit, in a lovely textured wool. This jacket has the lovely, almost work of art, buttons that so many Zuckermans feature. The jacket has 3/4 length sleeves (all the better to display bracelets, or gloves that would have been worn by most women in the 1950's).

There is a scalloped design in satin running down the front of the jacket, and the collar and hem are also edged in satin, making a striking detail.
