This cape, made of vicuna trimmed in fox fur, looks very up to date, but was actually made in the early 1960's.

The vicuña or vicugna is one of two wild South American camelids which live in the high alpine areas of the Andes. Vicuñas produce small amounts of extremely fine wool, which is very expensive because the animal can only be shorn every three years, and has to be caught from the wild.

This is a rather unusual Ben Zuckerman garment- a tunic style top, probably designed to be worn over a dress or skirt.

The tunic has lovely cuffed 3/4 length sleeves and hidden pockets at the seams. A placket runs halfway down the length, with large buttons and a very tailored collar completes the look.

'New York: Nasturtiums bloom on the dress and lining of a silk and pique ensemble by Ben Zuckerman. The collarless coat is done in hot tangerine pique.'

These photos feature a Ben Zuckerman coat, in heavy black wool. The coat dates from the early 1960's, and was sold at the wonderful boutique Martha's, a store that catered to the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy.
This coat has a gentle flair and would have fallen below the knee. It truly is a timeless design.

This Ben Zuckerman coat, which dates from the late 1950's, is a real beauty! It is made of a very subtle brocade, in lipstick red. The coat has a large collar, 3/4 length sleeves, a fit-and-flare design and two lovely bows decorating the waistline.
This coat was sold at Kaufmann's, the famous Pittsburgh department store, in their Vendome shop, which was located on the 11th floor. This area of the store sold high end designer wear, both American and imported.
