This is a lovely Ben Zuckerman ensemble, made up of a dress and coat in a bright citrus yellow. Truly perfect for spring!
The dress is a basic sheath style and the coat, in a matching fabric, is double breasted with great pearl buttons. This sort of outfit would have been perfect for a 'ladies that lunch' date.
The outfit was sold at L.A. Schulman, a high end boutique in White Plains, NY which opened in 1926 and was owned by Rose and Louis Schulman. The store closed in 1972.

This Ben Zuckerman coat, dating from the 1960's is a master class in tailoring. Plaid is a very difficult material to work with if you are going to make it look well. This coat has perfectly matched the pattern from one side of the coat opening to the other, as well as matching the plaid from the bodice to the sleeves. This is usually only done on higher end garments as it involves careful planning when cutting the material as well as increased wastage of fabric as there would be parts of the material that couldn't be used as it would cause a pattern mismatch.

This coat is spectacular! It is very full and floor length and would have been worn over a ball gown. It is trimmed in fur and has a shawl collar. It is impossible to say what colour it is but I could imagine it in a beige or grey.

The following photos show the same jacket with slightly different buttons. The jacket really stands out, with the pockets at the bust with a decorative 'stripe' down the front.
It's always wonderful to see a picture of a Ben Zuckerman and then to have the actual garment.

This is a Ben Zuckerman cocktail outfit in brown silk brocade. Made up of a belted, short sleeved dress and a bolero-length jacket trimmed in fur, possibly beaver.
Brocade was extremely popular in the 1950's and 60's. It was used extensively in formal wear and would elevated a simple suit into something suitable for evening.
This outfit was sold at the Tribout Shop, Wanamaker's. Wanamaker's was Philadelphia's first department store. It was an amazing store- full of interesting features like an Egyptian and Greek Hall, and floor dedicated to a pipe organ, a toy store that had a mono rail for children to ride and in house doctors and nurses. The Tribout shop was the department that sold high end ladies clothing.

This is a Ben Zuckerman coat in yellow velveteen with pretty diamante buttons. It is very typical Ben Zuckman in style- double breasted, knee length with 3/4 length sleeves.

This is a fantastic Ben Zuckerman evening ensemble in gold. The dress is long (thought not floor length) and has a rounded neckline and darts at the waist.
The coat is really spectacular. It has a hood and is trimmed in gold braid.

This picture shows Jacqueline Kennedy meeting with Mamie Eisenhower on 9 December 1960 for a tour of the White House.
Mrs Kennedy is wearing a purple wool coat by Ben Zuckerman. This coat was a line-for-line copy of a Pierre Cardin original. Mrs Kennedy would frequently use American designers like Zuckerman, Oleg Cassini and stores such as Chez Ninon to make copies of French couture. That way she could be seen to be wearing American designed clothes while still satisfying her love of all things French.
This coat was originally planned to be worn at the inauguration-day ceremony, but Mrs Kennedy changed her mind and wore a beige-grey Oleg Cassini coat trimmed in mink.
