An undated magazine feature, probably dating from the mid 1950's.

'The fitted coat- lacy British wool tweed cut- surprisingly with no added bulk- to a fitted little waist: a line, plus swinging skirt, plus important collar that you will see so much of. This coat's black crossings are the accessories it keeps. Coat, by Ben Zuckerman.'

This coat is really something special- the collar, with its gently waving folds, and the waist highlighted by a thin black belt is so supremely feminine. It is perfectly accessorized by a black net hat, black gloves and a structured black bag.

In Harper's Bazaar, 1963- Donald Madden and a model wearing a princess dress of white flowered pink brocade, sleeveless and spare under a white tweed coat lined in matching brocade. The hat is by Halston.

Donald Madden was born in New York in 1928. He was a well respected theatre actor, and was nominated for a Tony Award for his work in Black Comedy/White Lies. He appeared on television on Dr Kildare and the soap operas Another World and One Life To Live. He died in 1983.

Suit News: The skirt 70'' wide... or thereabouts. 'Here is the new suit skirt. Narrow at the hips; wide at the hem, where it is likely to measure a good 70'' around. Perhaps a touch more, if the wool is soft or inches less in crisp worsted. The effect, consistently, a gold mean between the not-for-everyone-narrow and the made-for-the-young exuberantly full. The fact, a new fashion. Above is the new skirt, new jacket, double buttoned right up to a high curved collar, the peplum curved up at the sides. By Ben Zuckerman, in flinty grey Juilliard worsted.' Juilliard worsted was wool manufactured by the Augustus D Juilliard Company, founded in 1874 by Augustus Juilliard. On his death in 1919 his will revealed that he had left his fortune to a number of hospitals, museums and other charitible causes, with the largest part of his fortune used to set up the music school Juilliard, which still exists today, producing the finest musicians in America.

From Harper's Bazaar, an undated Ben Zuckerman that I would place as mid to late 1960's. Made of Anglo Fabrics (probably wool), this shift dress has cap sleeves, and pockets on the seam by the hips. It has a v-notch at the neckline, and decorative trimming on all the seams. It also looks like there is an underskirt, making this dress appear as if it is a tunic. It is hard to say what colour this dress is, perhaps beige or even pink.

This is a very interesting Ben Zuckerman suit, in blue/pink plaid. The suit is made from very high quality wool and is so well made that the plaid design is matched over seams, a detail not seen in lower quality garments, as matching patterns requires more material, and hence more expense.

The jacket of the suit fastens with a zip, something I have not seen before in Ben Zuckerman suit jackets.

A Ben Zuckerman cape, featured in Harper's Bazaar, September 1962. The cape was likely made of the finest wool manufactured by Anglo Fabrics, and trimmed in what is probably fox.

This cape looks very up to date, as capes were seen on many designer's catwalks in 2010. Update the makeup, shoes and hat of the model and this cape would not look out of place today.

From Vogue, 1 March 1955- The Shirt-Sleeve Suit, as sold at Bonwit Teller. 'New casual elegance done in a quite formal worsted black or navy pin dot white stripe; with easy sleeves, big collar, a fresh big bow. By Ben Zuckerman. Misses sizes 165.00.' This suit has decorative buttons at the hip, a nipped waist, cuffs and the collar is so wide it spans the shoulders. Such a feminine suit, made more so by the big bow at the neckline.

This is a mid to late 1950's Ben Zuckerman suit in rich black velvet. The suit jacket is double breasted with large gilt buttons and a bow tie at the neckline. The skirt features double zips at each side- a feature I have seen in couture garments.

This suit was retailed at Amelia Gray, a boutique opened in 1952 in Beverley Hills, California. The store was located on Rodeo Drive, and was usually the case with any store that sold Ben Zuckermans, the store sold only the finest clothing and accessories.
